ST ANDREW’S CHURCH, parish of misery

At a stone’s throw from the historic centre you find St  Andrew’s church. This historical gem  contains several valuable artefacts and art-treasures  of a far – away as well as of a more recent past.

Some works belong to the top of the Antwerp cultural heritage  e.g. the 18th century baroque high altar, the 19th century pulpit or the 17th century monument erected in memory of Mary, Queen of Scots.

Very peculiar are the baroque altars with “enclosures”; in Antwerp St Andrew’s church is the only place where they have survived.

In 2001 the statue of the Virgin Mary, in Our Lady’s chapel, was dressed in a very modern outfit  by local fashion designer Ann Demeulemeester.

At the end of the visit your guide will show you the icing of the cake: the treasury!
