PERSECUTION OF JEWS IN ANTWERP DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR

In the Second World War Jews were heavily persecuted by the German occupying forces in Antwerp.

During this walk you will learn a lot about this Antwerp Holocaust.

The route starts in Central Station and meanders through the Kievit quarter for some two hours. At several locations that played an important role in this Jew-baiting you will be told gripping personal stories.

These stories are told from different points of view: a deportee in the first razzia, a collaborationist, a cooperative police officer…

But also some surprising characters will pass in review, such as the inventor of the typical Antwerp biscuit the Antwerps Handje, and a child who hid out with another family for nearly the entire war.

Also the political background that made this atrocious drama possible is amply described.
