CADIX AREA

The Cadix area is a lesser-known part of the Eilandje in the north of Antwerp.

In the 19th century a lively harbour quarter could be found here, but the expansion of the harbour to the north led this area to fall into decay from the 1960s onwards.

Thanks to the Master Plan for the Eilandje, the neighbourhood is now coming back to life.

The Cadix area is currently undergoing a true metamorphosis.

The attractive new Schengenplein has even become one of the largest green squares in the city.

Together with a city guide, you’ll walk across the gorgeous Park Bridge and be amazed at the speed with which a new hospital is being built here.

Admire the old warehouses and contemporary architecture and stroll along the quays between statues, bunkers, the church ship and trendy summer bars.

Of course, your guide will also tell you all about the next steps that are to be taken in order to transform this old harbour neighbourhood into a pleasant residential area near the water.

Discover the Cadix area, a neighbourhood in the Eilandje that has a fascinating past.

During this walk you will experience the transformation that the Cadix area is currently undergoing.
