‘HET EILANDJE’: where old and new go hand in hand

Just north of the Red Light District the old port area of ‘Het Eilandje’ now reveals itself as a  trendy quarter where old and new pleasantly surprise both young and older visitors.

A spectacular process of urban renewal turned the once faded port district into a lovely neighbourhood with water, promenades, terraces, greenery and some cultural gems.

Walk through this pleasant oasis. Among the historical warehouses  you will discover the modern architecture of the MAS, the Red Star Line museum and the new Port House.

Allow yourself to be flabbergasted by the metamorphosis the Cadix district is now going through.

This 19th century lively district declined in the sixties of the previous century. At an incredible rate new buildings are emerging (hospital, school, student rooms, residential areas) and bridges and squares are being constructed. A true voyage of discovery!
