In recent years Antwerp Central Station has been declared to be one of the most beautiful train stations in the world.
The walking tour starts on Astridplein, where you have view to the facade. Here the guide will tell you the history that led to this majestic building. Later you will visit the beautiful station hall, built to the model of the Pantheon in Rome. The hall is full of symbols referring to the rich citizens in Antwerp around 1900. The iron train shed with its three hinge arches is a technological high point from 100 years ago. This is also the reason why this station is called ‘the railway cathedral’. During the last part of this walking tour we pay attention to the highlights of the tunnelling and to the new Kievit station.
